I add my welcome to the new Tree Star/FlowJo cytometry forums. This
would be a great place to get a quick answer to a tech support
question... I suggest directing them to Aaron.

Hi - I'm Clare Rogers. I've just left the University of Michigan after
a little over 20 years there doing bench research in several different
labs (Depts. of Internal Med, Chemical Eng, Pathology, Pediatrics) -
and always using flow cytometry heavily (my first post at UM was
managing the Flow Cytometry Core Facility for 6 yrs). I have a BS in
Biochemistry & a MS in bioengineering.

I'm starting a new flow cytometry adventure at Accuri Cytometers in
Ann Arbor as an Applications Scientist on January 14.

I have gotten some great info through the Purdue email list over the
years & hope this site will add to my knowledge & help keep me in
touch w/ the flow community.

I have a keen interest in the application of flow cytometry to the
environmental sciences & plant cell biology. I have a worked a little
in that area w/ some researchers here in Mich. at NOAA, trying to
phenotype & enumerate cyanobacteria in Great Lakes water samples. I
hope to expand my work in that area while at Accuri. I would be very
interested in connecting w/ anyone w/ similar interests. I am a bit of
a newbie to that area of cytometry & would like to make some
connections.

Looking forward to new frontiers in flow cytometry...

Clare

Hi Clare,

Good to see a new face, hopefully we can actually build this into a
resource that people such as yourself will be stoked to use.

Cheers,

Hi!

I'm ren, and I'm an RA at a pharmaceutical company in Houston. I work
in a lab with 3 FACSCaliburs, a Canto, and a FACSArray (we don't have
a core, so it's mostly up to the geeks to keep things running
smoothly).
I've used CellQuest for quite a few years, and now I'm trying to learn
FlowJo.

Welcome Ren and Clara! We're always interested to read what's new in
people's labs since Aaron and I both derived from "the bench". The
transition from that to Application Scientist in any field changes
one's perspective and can indeed be a great flow adventure.

Hi Carol,

Good to see you around! The boards aren't too active yet, but we're
keeping an eye on them so if you post questions or want to start a
discussion on a particular topic, you'll hear from us. We're mostly
software geeks, so we gotta figure out how to get you and Marty, and
some of the other "real" cytometrists to hang out here. Any ideas on
what might make participation more attractive?

Aaron

Hi,

I am Joćo Loureiro. I am a Post-Doc student in the Department of
Botany of Charles University in Prague, but I am not Czech. I am
Portuguese and I've done all my studies so far at the University of
Aveiro (Aveiro, Portugal). I am interested in applying flow cytometry
to study plant genomes but I am also interested in flow cytometry in
general.

In order to promote plant flow cytometry, I've developed with the help
of many friends a blog: http://flowerdatabase.blogspot.com/, a forum
http://flowerdatabase.20.forumer.com/index.php and a database of plant
flow cytometry publications (FLOWer database, still in its beta
version) http://flower.web.ua.pt/. I invite you all to go through
these links and give your input.

Initiatives like this forum are very welcome and necessary to promote
the discussion within the flow cytometry community. Congratulations
for such a good idea and for all the efforts.

Joćo

Welcome, Joćo! I RSS your blog. I think having a plant-specific blog
is a good (and necessary) idea, so I might send people your way, as we
have a fair amount of marine zoologists doing plant flow here along
the west coast of the usa, especially in the San Diego area.

so.. What's your favorite Czech beer? (I'm Polish, so Polish beers are
acceptable answers too.)

Hi Maciej,

Thank you for all the publicity to the plant flow cytometry blog. I am
still in the testing phase of beers, so I will let you know in a
couple of weeks, which is the final verdict.
