Thanks a million. I don't suppose you have the music, but if anyone else has it, I'd appreciate the chords and/or tab for guitar. regards Larry "rambler" <ramblerky@yahoo?.comwrote in message news:< ws.com... Quote:

Oh Death, Oh Death, Won't you spare me over till another year. Well what is this that I can't see, what has cold hands takin' hold of me? Well I am death none can excel, I'll open the door to heaven or hell. Oh Death, someone would prey, could you wait to call me another day? The children prayed, the preacher preached, time and mercy is out of your reach. I'll fix your feet till you cant walk, I'll lock your jaw till you can't talk, I'll close your eyes so you can't see, this very hour come and go with me. Death I come to take the soul, leave the body and leave it cold, To drop the flesh off of the frame, the earth and worms both have a claim. Oh Death, Oh Death, Won't you spare me over till another year. My mother came to my bed, placed a cold towel upon my head, My head is warm my feet are cold, death is a movin' upon my soul. Oh death how your treatin me, you closed my eyes so I can't see Well you're hurtin' my body you're makin' me cold you've run my life right out of my soul. Oh death please consider my age, please don't take me at this stage. My wealth is all at your command if you will move your icy hand. Oh the young rich or poor all are like me ya know, No wealth no land no silver or gold, nothing satisfies me but your soul. Oh Death, Oh Death, Won't you spare me over till another year. Won't you spare me over till another year. Won't you spare me over till another year. C YA Mtch -- "Come by and sit a spell with me at " "Larry d'Lion" < in message news: om... Quote:

From the Digital Tradition " Sarah Ogan Gunning recorded a version on her 1965 Folk Legacy album, "A Girl of Constant Sorrow": The sleeve notes (UK release on Topic Records) say: " Oh Death is found in white and Negro tradition from Texas to the Georgia Sea Islands and is available today in widely contrasting settings: unaccompanied vocal solo, hillbilly duet (with guitars), bluegrhostinghostinghosting band. This stark conversational piece has attracted a number of short stylized explanations which place the song on the lips of a dying slave beaten by a cruel plantation mistress, or on the lips of a Kentucky hill-preacher stricken by the Lord for ignoring His call. Sarah adds an excellent narrative of her own: Elizabeth, her mother, used to sing this sad song while gathering herbs in the woods. One day she wandered near a concealed underground still. The moonshiners took Aunt Lizzie to be a ghost and in terrible fright abandoned the still (but only temporarily)." A similar dialogue with Death turns up in the traditional English song "Death and the Lady", which may be 16th century in origin." Carl |

him with the composition. Sounds like it should be "Traditional, arranged by Ralph Stanley". Thanks for correcting that. Now, do you have the music/tab/chords? Regards Larry Carl Baron < in message news:< Quote:

hi Larry
I saw Ralph perform that song in Chicago a year or so ago with the "Down From the Mountain " show, (long list of stars were there, Patty Lovelace, Allison Kraus, Union Station, Jerry Douglas, Norman Blake, Ricky Skaggs, Nashville Bluegrhostinghostinghosting Band, The Whites, Chris Thomas King, Emma Lou Harris and more, cant remember them all) Anyway, to the point, when Ralph introduced the song, he said it was one he remembered his father singing to him as a child. Ive never heard anyone but him do it, and thats been accapella. And I have to say I think he was 75 when I heard him, his voice is still outstanding. Also wanted to point out that artists can copyright the arrangement and recording performance of a piece in public domain (traditional). Without authorship. good pickin to you Michael Over 100,000 served. hostinghosting banjo players free mp3 downloads "Larry d'Lion" < in message news: om... Quote:
