Default cadillac catera oil light problem

cadillac catera 2000 w/ 57000 miles has intermittent oil light problem.
when car is being driven and you stop the oil light comes on and the oil
pressuire guage is very low (in the red), when you speed the engine the
oil pressure guage increases, but light stays on until the car is turned
off. Does not happen every time.

Low on oil
Idle speed low
Bad oil pump
Worn bearings, races, etc.

From what I remember hearing about Catera's of that vintage, I think I'd
unload it if I were you.
Failing that, unless it is low on oil, probably not much YOU can do about
it.
A "high mileage" oil that ends in 50 might help it last a few more miles.

My Catera has 2 oil lights and I ***ume yours does as well- one is
at the "top" of the gauge; this one is an indicator of the oil level
in the engine only. The second oil light is at the" bottom" of the
gauge and is meant as a backup alert to the driver in case of
catastrophic and imminent engine failure because the engine has run
out of oil and the driver isn't paying attention to the gauge.
I don't know which oil light you are referring to and can't give you
much help until I do.
Your comments about the gauge reading are interesting- our Catera
has 160000 km. (100,000 miles) as of this month- the gauge pointer
never gets into the so-called danger zone at the bottom of the
instrument, nor should it ever.
