CD-ROM Peripherals speed on cd-rs flexible?


Default speed on cd-rs flexible?

i picked up some cd-rs at futile shop that said 40x on them. usually i see
them with 1x-40x but these just said 40x (cicero)? will they work in 4x
and 8x cd writers like the other ones do? the guy at futile shop said yes
but a friend said no so i'm looking for other opinions before i open the
pack.

What in the world is "futile shop"? Your English is excellent, but it is
a term I have not encountered in that sense.

A disc rated 40x max will work at lower speeds. It may or may not be as
good at speeds below 16x as those with a lower maximum, but that is true
whether they are specified as 1x-40x or only as 40x.

In ancient days, some manufacturers specified a lower speed for
write-once media; below that speed, writing was not possible. However,
that disappeared from common use long before the upper speed limit was
dropped. The situation with erasable media is different, of course.
