Default Music For The M***es in 'better-than-I-remember-it' shocker...

Me and wifey were listening to MFTM the other day while doing a spot of
decorating (music gets the paintroller moving that much quicker!) and
having not listened to it properly for a while, we were both stunned by
just how damn good it still sounds... now don't get me wrong, I always
thought it was a fine album, and I played it to death throughout my
late teens and early twenties, making it forever part of the soundtrack
to that period of my life, but after that kind of exposure you often
back away from a record, especially when I had the excellent Violator
and then SOFAD to keep me going. Perhaps it was precisely because of
the good memories it brought back, as well as giving me the '101' vibe,
but pretty soon we were singing our hearts out, not just to the
singles, but real thumpers like 'Nothing', 'Sacred' and 'Pleasure
Little Treasure'... by the end we were head-banging to the Aggro mix of
'Never Let Me Down Again'... Marvelous! I also still love the way the
Album is hung together with interludes and synth sweeps/pads extending
from one track to the next. It all works brilliantly without sounding
contrived or clumsy. A real cl***ic.

That remix is in my opinion definitely among the best that DM have made, and
that probably has to do with the fact that just like a lot of their other
good remixes it was done by the band themselves. I think if I had a list of
favorite remixes it would make my top two or three. Just the drums alone
and the additional guitar part (recorded specifically for that mix) are
fantastic.

Absolutely... and the way the menacing b***line shifts gears is quite
exhilarating... watching the short clip on Dm.com of NLMDA from the
Violator tour just made me want to get hold of a good audio recording
of that tour even more...

This I don't understand. I'm a fan of DM, and I believe that you're a
bigger fan than me. (according to all the posts I've read from you
these past few years) I listen to every DM album MOST of the time,
depending on the mood. So this sounds odd to me that you're
rediscovering MFTM, when it's always playing on my machine, one way or
another. Not bashing here, just confused.

Makes complete sense to me as I'm the same way. I go through spurts where I
don't even *GASP* listen to any specific DM for some time and then
rediscover the beauty of it all over again.

I have a bigger mouth, maybe :-D

Well, it was kind of odd for me too, hence my post. I maybe overstated
the length of my wilderness away from MFTM... it's not like I've
*never* listened to it since 1990, but in contrast to the heavy
rotation I've given it in the past, it had become something of a
stranger... or maybe a long lost friend :-)

Indeed. My Honda Prelude died and its replacement doesn't have a CD player
(but it's got XM Radio!!!). I hadn't listened to a DM CD since last May,
until this past weekend...talk about delayed gratification! The cool thing
is I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I heard each
new DM album for the first time...

my only complaint with that album was that they used the "split mix"
without the intro and then faded it early, but not early enough so that
you can't hear the drums start the "aggro"-like part of the mix

speaking of which, does anyone have a version of the "split mix" without
the glitch that occurs approx 2.5 seconds in?

every version I have of this mix (including the one from the sire "just
say yes" compilation) seems to have this glitch

brilliant IMHO.

Coincidentally, it was the album that brought me back to rediscovering DM
(which I dropped then SOFAD came out, as its 'in-your-face' aesthetics didn't
fit my life at the time: even though I do like the album (SOFAD) now, listening
to it is still a somewhat labourous process for me)

Cool! Do you guys do ceramic tile or hardwood floor sanding? I could use
some pointers

Very true!! It is not that you are forgeting it or tired of it, it just becomes
almost like an organic part of your bloodstream and echoes there for as long
as anything in your daily life still reminds you of that time then it was
in heavy rotation.

...Um, well, at least that's how it works for me 8)
