Default Dodge Diesel Serpentine Belt; 2001

I have 50K on my 2001 Dodge Diesel 2500 and notice the serpentine belt has
tiny cracks on both sides. However, I'm told by the service personnell
that is normal. Any one have any experience with this? How many miles
should I run this belt. I'm leaving in January for an extensive USA trip
towing my 26' fifth wheel camper.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I usually replace them at 50K. Change it out for a new one, and keep the
old one under the seat as an emergency spare. Cheap insurance.

I changed mine @ 120K. Small cracks going perpendicular to the belt's
rotation are normal, cracks running parallel are bad.

I'm still running the original on a 318 gas burner at 186,000 miles.

Good idea! Thanks guys for the info. Guess I'll change it tomorrow and keep
the old one for emergencies!

I had a belt in the same condition. Had no problems it stayed together.

To be on the safe side, I would get another belt and leave it somewhere in
the truck. Keep it as a spare or replace the cracked one and keep that as a
spare.

I replaced mine at 30,000 miles, I wasn't comfortable with the way it
looked and I was getting ready to go on a trip pulling a big horse
trailer... I also have 01 2500...
