I'm trying to come up with a style of gate that I can build or install at the top and bottom of our staircase. Our 11 month boy has become very mobile and loves to climb the stairs. I'm currently using the expandable type that locks into place which works well, but our other kids ( ages 3,6 and 10) have actually gotten hurt climbing over this. Protect the little one and endager the older ones, go figure. I'd like to build a sort of swinging gate, something like a garden gate with a latch that the older kids can operate easily but be secure enough to withstand a very persistant toddler. I don't care about how it looks and I'm willing to bolt or screw whatever into the walls and bannister to mount it securely. Any ideas or recommendations greatly appreciated. Toby |

have a safety latch that enables older children to open and walk through them but not the little ones. If you can't buy them where you are then you would be better off building one. We have the one that you talk about for our 2 dogs and some people have trouble climbing over them when they come to our place.
