Default What's up?

Hi Everyone. What have you all been doing over the past few weeks? Our
Centre just celebrated Japanese week and it was great. The children picked
up the two songs I taught them really quickly and I am so impressed with
them. I dabble in Origami and it was a great opportunity to introduce them
to this art form. Other than the fun week it has been business as usual and
I am still looking for the magic potion when it comes to toilet training.
Seems like I just get one lot trained and then I get a new lot ready for
training. It does seem to work better when they do it together but I would
LOVE a day with no wee on the floor or carpet for a change.

Debbie

We are going into winter so no more swimming/water play for us. I hate this
time of the year because now the children have to keep their shoes and socks
on but everytime I turn around I find shoes and socks lying all over the
place. Every morning we talk about this and the need to keep them on with
the sand and gr*** being damp and cold outside but it goes in one ear and
out the other. I'm thinking of putting super glue in their shoes. )

Default Re: What's up?

In our daycare all children who could walk had to have their shoes on...
even during nap. They said it was a hazzard.... if there was a fire or
emergency then children would have to go out with out shoes and this was
dangerous... what a stubbed toe... gl***....

Kids are kids and kids hate shoes! So do I for that matter but I wear them..
as dh says it's kinda unprofessional to walk around barefoot... but i wear
sandals and flops on occation... I just hate shoes and have no problem with
kids walking around with their piggie toes sticking out all day! Winter
months I make em wear socks at least....

I dont' know what to tell you to keep the shoes on Deb as these kids take
their shoes off upon walking in the door then put them in the "shoe basket"
(a small wicker basket by the door).

Maybe make a game of it... who ever leaves their shoes on will get a sticker
when you get back inside. If they take the shoes off then no sticker... but
then again I hate to see kids cry when they don't get a sticker... so a
sticker and a promis to try harder for the ones who take off the shoes LOL

In summer they are allowed to take their shoes off but in winter they have
to keep them on. I had thought of stickers but I also feel bad for children
who don't get a sticker and get upset. This happens every year and then
when we go into Spring and they can take shoes off, everyone keeps them
on!!! They just get used to the idea when it's over.

Our Centre rule is they are allowed to take them off for rest but the other
times they have to keep them on in winter. We are not allowed to let them
walk around in socks. I once had this little girl who had her indoor and
outdoor shoes and we had to keep changing her footwear every time we went in
and out.

That's a bit yuck and uncomfortable. I can see the point of there being an
emergency but that's a bit extreme.

This is the rule in the center I work in also. Most comply willingly. A
few we must enforce and reinforce this rule.
