just a couple of thoughts on things to check...
does the 6800gs have an auxiliary power connection? if so, is it connected?
also, what were you using for video before - another AGP card, or
onboard graphics? If onboard, did you disable it in the BIOS and specify
the AGP video as the default to use?
I would also double/triple check to make sure the card is seated
properly in the slot. I have run across a couple of slightly irregular
cases that, when the PCI card is screwed into place it lifted the far
end of the AGP card out of the slot just enough to break the electrical
connection.

I agree with checking that the card is seated in the slot. Try installing
with out the screw holding it in place and see if that works. If it does
just put the screw in tight enough to hold the card in place, not cinched
down...to prevent the backend from being pulled out of the slot.

You could also adjust the bracket to fit or adjust the motherboard position
to fit the card....Ive had issues like this with Nvidia cards before so I'm
guessing that this is the probable solution if the card is working/good.

If you have another AGP card you could test the AGP slot in your mobo also
to rule that out as well.
