I just turn it on in the morning and that's it until a close down at the
end of the day...

The speedtouch software does that anyway, but I put one on the taskbar
too. What make modem have you got.. The Speedtouch one is supposed to
be award winning according to Wanadoo

I suppose I could leave my puter on and just switch the monitor off,
although I think somewhere there is an autocutoff somewhere

The monitor should power down after about 10 minutes (mine does). I
leave mine on if I'm just nipping out for an hour or so, but I do turn
it off if I'm going to be out for ages - but purely for the fire safety
side of things.

Yup, the award was made by Alcatel... :-))
I have a Speedtouch USB but mine is the one that looks like a manta ray
although everybody calls it a frog and it is a blue/green colour.
Here's mine...

Yes, and the monitor uses quite a bit of mains power, compared with the
computer which is on a transformer using lower voltage

I wonder what happens if it goes wrong? Whether being part of the deal
whether Wanadoo will replace it free of charge. I bet they won't!
