Default 306 power steering pump replacement

can someone briefly advise how to replace the power steering pump on a 1999
1.9 diesel 306 estate. How do I bleed the system after replacement.

Remove the auxilliary belt.
Have a container handy and undo the low pressure hose jubilee clip and
remove the hose. You could clamp the pipe first if you want to save
the fluid, but why not drain as much as you can and renew it? Then
undo the high pressure pipe with a 16mm or 17mm open ended spanner. If
really tight you may have to get a pipe spanner to fit tighter.
Through the holes in the pulley at about 8 o'clock and 6 o'clock
(looking straight at the pump from the o/s wing) there are two 6mm
allen bolts. Remove them. They are different so don't mix them up.
Then remove the rear bolt and ease up the pump and remove. Try not to
get any fluid on the bodywork.
Replacing is basically the reverse. Don't forget the belt! Then fill
the reservoir with ATF and start the engine. The level will drop so be
ready to top up to about halfway. Leave it running for a minute, then
go slowly from lock to lock a few times, keepimg an eye on the level.
That's it. You may get a graunchy noise at first for maybe 10 seconds
while the fluid goes round the system. Go for a run to warm up the
fluid, check the level and top up as necessary.
Good luck,

Nigel,

Thank you for the advice. Sounds like a straightforward affair if the
bolts don't play up!!

Cheers Ian

I've never had them play up. Just make sure you have a good fitting
allen key socket.

Nigel,

Just to let you know the replacement iaw your instructions went like a
breeze. Didn't know how to remove the auxilliary belt correctly so just
loosened the pump and removed it that way. Tested the steering afterwards
and all was well.

Thanks once again for the advice. Ian
