incidence of crud in the 18 newsgroups I monitor. Here crud is defined as anything that gets caught by my filters, and good is anything that p***es them. The results follow: date | Sat | Sun | Mon | Tue | Wed | Thu | Fri | Sat ---- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Bad | 96 | 108 | 93 | 100 | 101 | 135 | 101 | 74 Good | 387 | 388 | 598 | 519 | 550 | 643 | 409 | 402 The figures confirm my belief that traffic falls off over the weekend. It does NOT confirm my attitude that crud drops off at the same time. My filters are arranged to prevent down-loading when identified. I have set follow-ups to comp.programming, which is under-utilized and fairly liberal as to content. It is also universally available. Please do not alter this. -- <http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.txt> <http://www.securityfocus.com/columnists/423> <http://www.aaxnet.com/editor/edit043.html> cbfalconer at maineline dot net -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com |

Perhaps if you added the two Saturdays together you'd see that your "theory" is total ****, just like everything else you post. It seems to be compliant. The 5th and 6th line are appended by the server. I see you're still having fun ridiculing others. It's not real important how the lines got there, the signature block is non-compliant in either case. He's been asked repeatedly by many people, in many newsgroups, to fix this, and refuses to do it. And you think I'm the ***hole? > I see you're still having fun ridiculing others. You haven't changed a bit. I'm not "ridiculing" him. I'm pointing out something that needs correcting. I guess you don't notice him constantly correcting others on their posting netiquette, while all the while using that non-compliant sig block. How hypocritical (of both of you). -- "Ubuntu" -- an African word, meaning "Slackware is too hard for me". |

You must understand that Roy Schestowitz is a spamming moron. Only then will you understand why he supports Falconer. Falconer seems totally unable to understand that the faulty sigs ARE his fault. It is a snap for him to move to another free nntp server - OR to simply remove his petty, self serving "advice" signature which he is constantly flouting at people. |

How much of this crud is being generated by spam-bots that continue to work on weekends? Other crud, generated by humans that actually have to hit SEND, might actually increase on the weekends as people who lack "a life" have more free time to annoy the denizens of usenet. Meanwhile, the number of good, relevant posts actually drops over the weekend as people with family and social obligations don't have time to play with their computers. In my own case, I often have "free time" during the week when I'm not working. The weekends are generally so hectic that I'm glad to go back to work on Monday. Just some observations... -- Micheal H.
