original TWAIN driver that came with my Epson? Below are some further details. Thank you. Franklin --------------------- DETAILS -------------------- I run WinXP with SP1. When I do some scanning, the Epson TWAIN driver (which came with my Epson Perfection 1250 scanner) pops up. Is it possible to get a different TWAIN driver which can replace this original TWAIN driver that came with my Epson? .... OR ... are TWAIN drivers usually highly specific to their hardware? (In the same way that the driver for something like a printer is usually unique for that printer. I kind of get the feeling that the TWIN driver sits "behind" the hardware driver for the scanner so I kind of hope that allows the TWAIN driver to be changed. |

The only place you're going to find a newer driver for your scanner is Epson's website. Have a look here: http://tinyurl.com/43xcb (links to Epson.com driver page for your scanner) Check the Help | About link on your current scanner driver to determine if the latest available download is newer than the driver you are already running. Panel), the Twain driver doesn't pop up, just the options in Smart Panel. Additionally, I can use the scanner through other programs, such as Photoshop Elements. Fitz |

I'd love to get my hands on your copy of the Epson software. I've spent most
of today trying to get my brand new 3170 to function. Really flakey software. 12 plus clean installs and I've got a couple of IT people here to provide ideas. This is the second Epson I've had. The last one was a cheap Perfection 1250 refurb that did really nice scans, but I had to use Vuescan to make it work. Exact same software problems as with this one. Glad yours works OK. Best, Dave |

If what you are asking for is if there are other programs besides the Epson
Twain program with which to operate your scanner, the main alternative is Vuescan. I use it frequently to operate my old Epson 1200 when scanning photos and the occasional old large format negative or transparency that I run into. It has more usable options for tuning the scan image in the driver than is provided for in the Epson Twain scanner. |

AIRC Epson requires the driver installed before connecting the scanner the first time. Doing the install with the scanner attached is guaranteeing failure, IMO. Q |

("Version 5.53" in my case.) |

I think I will try VueScan. Can I leave the original Epson TWAIN on the system when I install VueScan? If so, then can I select between the two TWAIN drivers? |
