Sort of amazes me that people seem to think that spending an extra five or ten grand on the car is worth saving a thousand on the gas. /:^| Hybrids are a political statement, nothing more. -- TeGGeR® |

But it's cheaper than Camry. At Toyota.com, the base price for Prius (4-Dr Gas/Elec ECVT) is $19,995. The base price for Camry SE 4-cylinder 4-speed Automatic is $20,750. If their performance and comfort being equal, I'd go for Prius. |

The 2004 Prius has much better low-speed torque and acceleration than does the Camry. But it does take about 10 sec to go from 0 to 60 MPH. You might as well wait for the 2005 model year and consider in addition to the Prius the forthcoming hybrid SUVs from Lexus and Ford. They should have noticeably better acceleration. |

There is no trunk room You must have had a first-generation Prius, not a 2004? The 2004 has more interior room than a Camry. > and the cost of replacement batteries scares > me away. Not to mention all the fancy electronics technology that will be > subjected to climatic extremes. Eh. The battery cost will undoubtedly drop a lot before the 8 year/100,000 mile warranty expires. It gets plenty cold in Japan where Prius models have been in use for six years. Has anyone heard of reliability problems? |

But let's check back in three years or so, when gas costs $3 per gallon. > > Hybrids are a political statement, nothing more. Pretty much, yes. Politics is more than voting for President. |
