Videocard ATI - "Two beginner's questions." in Peripherals

Default Two beginner's questions.

I have an ASUS EAX1950 Pro Graphics card with 8.33.0.0 drivers. This
performs well, giving me good frame rates in FS2004 and FSX flight sims. My
questions are:

1 Nearly all games give advice like "Make sure you use the latest drivers
for your card" but others advise, "If things are OK, with no problems,
leave well alone".

2 ATI advise un-installing old drivers before installing new ones but if
you do this, how do you retain the option of "rollback" which you appear to
have using Hardware Manager in Control Panel?

Regards

Save at least the 3 most recent versions whenever you download a new
update. That way you have a few to step back to.

That's what I do anyway.

The recommended procedure to 'rollback' video drivers is the same as
installing new ones. Uninstall everything first, reboot, then install
the version you want. Do this whether you are going to newer drivers
or older drivers. Always uninstall first, this eliminates lots of
potential problems. The rollback feature works pretty well with drivers
that are one or two files. Video cards can use dozens of files for one
driver version, and some files may or may not be included in a different
version of the same driver.
