Default Re: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and successfully re

I have found and fixed the problem today. This is what appears to happen.
during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD file
nvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one
in the install. As a result the new drivers are attempting to access a file
dated 11/2006 instead of 2/2007 ver 7.15.11.0065 which is in the newest WHQL
driver ver 100.65 vista 32.

Fix: Go to windows/system32/drivers and rename nvlddmkm.sys to
nvlddmkm.sys.old. Go to the nvidia directory and find the file nvlddmkm.sy_
and copy it to windows/system32. Using the cmd window (DOS box) type
EXPAND.EXE nvlddmkm.sy_ nvlddmkm.sys. When the expansion is complete, copy
the new nvlddmkm.sys to windows/system32/drivers and restart the computer.

Your computer should now work properly.

You will notice that any uninstall and reinstall of nvidia drivers will not
remove the old nvlddmkm.sys file and will not overwrite it with the newer
version. You have to do it manually. I do not know why this happens but who
cares as long it is fixed.

Good luck...

Default Re: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and successfully re

during the installation of the most current drivers 100.65 Vista, an OLD file
nvlddmkm.sys is copied into windows/system32/drivers and not the current one
in the install.

The latest version, 158 of the Nvidia drivers remove old versions of
nvlddmkm, but that is not the only problem.

Turn off UAC and the problem will go away.

lol... with the latest drivers neither turning uac off or renaming some
file will solve the problem. the truth is that no'one has detected the
problem yet and there's no way to solve it.

Default Re: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfull

Well, on my system it runs without this problem occuring all these months
since I wrote my response. Why do you say that no one has detected this
problem yet?

My system has been 100% stable. I beta test all sorts of utilities and
hardware for various companies large and small, I take apart my system and
put it together with slightly different parts, and my "retirement" has been
spent on my hobby making Vista work well. My motherboard and graphics card
have not changed: Striker Extreme, Intel Quad Extreme and 8800GTX. No
problems whatsoever having to do with graphics. I have turned on UAC and
turned it off and the graphics problem has not come back. Yes games are
better on XP, but Vista and Nvidia seem to work OK. If you want to have a
dialog, fine. If you want to vent your anger, believe me I understand. Just
let me know how i can help!

I have a 8800GTS and also regularly had an issue with nvlddmkm. Had it right
up to version 158.24 (latest version) of the nVidia driver. Have reported to
nVidia via their feedback page. However, about two days ago I downloaded the
beta 158.45 (was led to it via the feedback pages process). I'm normally
wary about beta's, but this one specified the 8800. Installed it, and apart
from losing my resolution once at boot the next day (from my native
1680*1050 to 1360*768), have had zero problems.

Saying this, it *has* only been two days, but this driver seems to have
resolved the "Display driver NVLDDMKM stopped responding and has
successfully recovered" issue.
