Windows XP - "boot error message" in Operating System ( OS )

Default boot error message

I use XP Pro on a Dell. For no apparent reason, an error
message now appears when I boot indicating that the file
MDATA.DAT cannot be found. The machine runs fine, but the
message is annoying. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
