Does anyone know if there is a downloadable evaluation of XP Pro. I'm thinking of upgrading to Pro from XP-home, but I'd like to try it for a few weeks before buying it. TIA |

Here's what Pro. offers that Home doesn't: Pro has Internet Information Server (IIS) [A web server], home does not and it can't even be installed on Home Pro can join a network domain, home can only participate in workgroup networks Pro supports 10 simultaneous network connections, Home supports 5 If you need the features of Pro, go for it, but there really isn't anything different about how Pro looks, feels, acts than Home. XP Professional and XP Home are exactly the same in all respects, except that Professional has a few features (mostly related to networking and security) missing from Home. For most (but not all) home users, these features aren't needed, would never be used, and buying Professional instead of Home is a waste of money. For details go to http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...p_home_pro.asp http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/whichxp.asp http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/h.../choosing2.asp Also note that Professional allows ten concurrent network connections, and Home only five. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Shell/User Please reply to the newsgroup |
