Default No 'r' repair option on XP Pro install CD

Early in the boot-up I am getting a screen which says I
have a corrupt system file, similar to this user had:

Subject: XP needs repair .posted 2/4/20004
>>stated that the following file has become corrupted (but
>>it just listed a diretory ...\config32\system) and told
>>me to start the XP Home setup and hit 'r' to repair.

The problem is I am running XP Pro and there is no
obvious repair option on the CD.

I tried Install Windows XP ; Installation type: Upgrade
(Recommended) but when I entered my software key it said
invalid key.

How do I repair this?

You need to boot from the XP CD, not run setup from within Windows.

Appreciate the reply Doug.

Per your referenced page, how do I get my PC to boot from
a disk/CD. I have no do***entation on how to do this. PC
is not a brand name.

Tessa.
